Physan 20 and Clonex drops
15ml bottles, 1 bottle of each. Physan 20 is used when cleaning tissue cultures during deflasking. Clonex is used to water your tissue cultures.
The baseline to know: the standard general-purpose rate is about 1 teaspoon per gallon, and 1 teaspoon ≈ 80–90 drops, so the numbers below scale from there.
Tool & surface sanitizing (blades, scissors, pots, trays, benches — general rate)
- 1 cup water → 5–6 drops
- 1 quart → 20–22 drops
- 1 gallon → about 1 tsp (80–90 drops)
- Wipe or dip, let it sit wet a minute or two, then use. Great between every cut so you're not spreading anything plant to plant.
Incoming-plant / general plant soak (algae, mold, surface fungal/bacterial on established plants)
- 1 quart → 20–22 drops
- 1 gallon → ~1 tsp
- Dip or spray, don't leave established roots soaking long.
Deflasking tissue-culture soak — go gentler here, TC plantlets are fragile and have no cuticle/defenses yet
- Use a weak rate: roughly 1 quart water → 8–10 drops (about half the normal strength, ~½ tsp per gallon)
- Quick dip/swish only — 30 seconds to a couple minutes, just to knock back agar residue and contamination, then rinse in clean water before potting into your sterile mix.
- The goal at deflasking is gentle decontamination, not a hard sterilize — too strong will burn those tender plantlets faster than anything.
Clonex liquid (Clone Solution / Root Maximizer) — watering fresh deflasked TC, weeks 1–3
The full-strength rate is about 5 mL per liter, and 1 mL ≈ 20 drops, so full strength is ~100 drops per liter. For tender TC plantlets, run it gentler:
- 1 cup water → 10–12 drops
- 1 quart → 35–45 drops (about half strength)
- 1 gallon → ~140–180 drops (≈ 2–2.5 mL/gallon, half strength)
Use it in place of plain water during those first ~3 weeks to drive root establishment, then stop.
The routine, since this is the part that matters as much as the ratio:
Weeks 1–3: root. Water with the Clonex solution to push root establishment on the fresh deflasked plantlets.
After ~3 weeks: stop Clonex, switch to foliage. You've got the plant physiology right — a young plant works on roots ortop growth, not both at once. Rooting hormone holds it in "make roots" mode, which is exactly what you want early, but keep it up past establishment and you're stalling the leaf push. So pull the Clonex once roots are going and switch to a balanced/foliar feed to drive top growth.
