Sculpted Leaf Surface & Edges: The foliage features an embossed, uneven surface and deeply undulating, ruffled leaf margins that give the leaves a distinct wave-like texture
The "Tattoo" Markings: Its most defining characteristic is found on the abaxial (underside) of the leaf. Irregular, inky, silver-grey to pale cream mottling spans between the veins, creating an intricate pattern that resembles tattoo artwork
Layered Contrast: The classic, bold white-to-cream primary venation of the Frydek lineage remains perfectly intact. This bright framing contrasts sharply against both the rich, velvety emerald-green ground color and the pale underlying variegation layers

The Alocasia 'Purpley' is a striking, highly sought-after color mutation clone of the classic Alocasia × amazonica (African Mask Plant). Originally discovered by grower Bill Rotolante in a batch of tissue culture liners, this plant stands out because its emergent new leaves unfurl with an all-over, bright metallic purple or violet tint on the top side. How it Differs From a Standard 'Polly' or 'Amazonica' While a regular Alocasia Amazonica features dark forest-green leaves with a purple underside, the 'Purpley' takes the pigmentation a step further. [1, 2] The Purple Cycle: Newly emerged leaves have a distinct purple hue covering the entire upper surface. Maturation: As the leaves harden off and age, the bright purple surface color gradually fades into a deep, nearly-black green with a metallic sheen.
