Black Magic is a rare, compact "jewel" Alocasia from the forests of Borneo, and it is dark — small, thick, glossy leaves that shimmer metallic violet and plum before hardening to a deep, near-black gleam, with rich burgundy-purple undersides and a reflective sheen that catches the light like polished stone. New growth emerges an iridescent violet and deepens as it matures, and the color only gets richer with age. The name says it all: infernalis means "of the underworld," and "Black Magic" nods to those otherworldly, obsidian leaves. Alocasia hate drying out hard and hate sitting wet, so evenly moist with sharp drainage is the target (overwatering rot is the top killer). And like all Alocasia, it goes dormant — leaves can fade and die back in winter, then return in spring.
